Here’s a tip from Gavin to tweak the i780′s volume-
*#0002*28346# code for changing volume
TX – controls how loud people will hear YOU
RX – how loud YOU can hear ppl
- XX dB .. +XX dB .. logarithmic scale.. negative values decrease volume, positive values amplify volume, 0 dB = “original” sound without any processing (decrease/amplification).
Works also with the ring tone volume, speakerphone volume, media player.. everything – and values are retained after soft-reset.
It’s a very useful piece of info. but i would like to know what represents sound for camera and so on? there are so many to tweak but i don’t know which is for which. kindly enlighten me.
by the way, how do you know about this? because in the manual, it doesn’t have that.
Hi there!
Firstly I want to congratulate you on this great blog! Very useful and very very informative.
Regarding the volume tweak, I have managed to access it but I have no idea which parameters are for what.
Mainly, I want to increase the volume on my Jabra BT headset ( I can hardly hear the other end) and also increase my voice volume for the benefit of the other end (they have trouble hearing me).
Also I notice that the volume coming through the standard Samsung stereo headset while listening to music via the Windows Media Player is too low and I would like to tweak it louder as well.
And… which parameter is for the ringtone volume?
Overall, would not mind knowing what the other parameters are for as well as sometimes you don’t know you need/want something till its in front of you!
In any event, Cheers for this great blog and all contributors for the great info it contains!
Hi,
what are the default values? I kind of messed up the settings…
JT
Hi everyone, sorry for taking so long to reply.
Default Settings
Menu , Normal
Handset – 0db, -4.5db, + 30db, +20db, 1.5db
Headset – -6db, -15db, +24db, +20db, 1.5db
Menu Talking
Handset – -6db, -6db, +12db, 0db, +0db, -6db
Earjack – -7.5db, -6db, +12db, 0db, +0db, -6db
Speakerphone – -4.5db, -6db, +12db, -6db, +0db, -6db
ADCV – -5.25db, -6db, -9db, -9db
This program is not in the manual.
TX = controls how loud people hear you
RX = controls how loud you hear people.
So for my bluetooth I go to Menu, Talking, BTMono
and change
RX from -6db to 0db and TX to -1.5db to make the settings louder. Then go Menu, Apply, Back and exit
Fairly self explanatory. But you must “apply” before exiting.
I must be an idiot. I am trying to increase the volume of my ring tone … which one am i supposed to be increasing?
Anyone who knows which parameters to change in order to increase to volume output for the earphones (headphones). I have tried many settings but in vain. Can you please help me?
THank you.
Mike

Goto Menu, Talking, Earjack and change the RX setting from the -db setting to a low + setting at first. If the +db need raising again go back and increase it. When you change the number, goto menu apply, before starting to exit app.
There is one other options after this.
Hello Gavin and Mike,
have you resolved issues about earjack?
I tried to connect original Samsung earphones but volume is too low. I tried to change settings on Menu->Talking->Earjack but no solutions! Also Menu->Normal->Headset doesn’t make changes. MP3 sound through earphones is very low!!!!!
I am trying to increase the volume of my ring tone.
Which one am i supposed to be increasing? IS it the menu>nomal>rvol?
Thanks
? where do you enter the code. which app do i need to install anything?
thanks
@Rob – The code is entered in the phone app. Press green key to bring phone up. Just imagine dialling this number except at the last digit entered the app appears.
@Wilson – ringtone. Remember Wilson that the first few seconds always ring lower then the normal set volume works. Menu, Normal, Handset, RX, and set a +db setting. Menu, Apply, then exit.
@Fabri – Earjack . Menu, Talking, Earjack, and change the RX value to +0db or higher. Then Menu Apply, and then exit. If this isnt enough, goto Menu, Headset, RX and put up to 0db or +?db, Menu , Apply , Menu exit. If this isnt enough, goto Menu, Normal, Handset and try then same thing. I have a 3.5mm adapter arriving soon, so I will try myself and work out exact parameters. Could be your headphones are not sensitive enough.
thanks Gavin.
Gavin,
You mention => @Wilson – ringtone. Remember Wilson that the first few seconds always ring lower then the normal set volume works. Menu, Normal, Handset, RX, and set a +db setting. Menu, Apply, then exit.
But i dont see any RX after i enter Menu – Normal – Handset.
Theres only DAC, SPK, MPBST, RBST, RVOL, TONE (blank no value).
Please advice =)
Dear poster,
Thank you so much for this info..I was very close to return my i780 back for another phone, if it wasn’t for your post!
Few questions, I know you explained everything in technical ways, I still have problem applying the numbers
What is the difference between (Menu – talking) and (Menu-Normal) ?
How to raise the volume of the Handset? and the speaker phone?
NOTE:
To make the long story short, I’d like to increase everything (handset, headset, BT, and ring tones)
so could you please post the optimum values that you think are good (such as the steps you gave earlier for the bluetooth) I mean does (RX from -6db to 0db and TX to -1.5db) works in every option, and its the optimal value high volume with no distoration? I used it for BT as you explained and the leveling is excellent for me. so do I just go and change these value for everything else?
Many Many many thanks
max
